In this book, Uston exposed the secrets of Al Francesco's big player teams. The book caused a falling out between Al and Ken that lasted for years, as Al felt Ken had betrayed his trust as well as his teammates.

But there is no denying that the book caused an upheaval in the world of card counting, changing the ways that professionals looked at the game and attacked it. Three of the most successful international blackjack teams-the Tommy Hyland team, the MIT team, and the Czech team - all were founded in 1978, the year after Uston's book was published.

Al and Ken later patched up their relationship and Uston went on to start many blackjack teams of his own. He was a personality on a grand scale, who legally challenged the casino industry in the courts of both New Jersey and Nevada. His playing career spanned two decades of play at the highest levels, and included card counting, BP teams, hole card techniques, and concealed computer play.

Ken is also the author of Two Books on Blackjack (1979), Million Dollar Blackjack (1981), and Ken Uston on Blackjack (1986).
Uston died in 1987 at the age of fifty-two.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-678853824961818684.post-66906602741118058392008-09-25T18:38:00.000-07:002008-09-25T18:57:22.925-07:00Registry Optimizer 2008: Prevent Errors and Repair PC Problems!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY_ph1fkppQ9TOR4AOoKukma3E4UAbMUMEaqxcJPisszyPj3by-sHkc-TwfLiFHcrG_GsUZ24JaYGhENsRo3_PdpPPnreqpcngYTcajPgRQHUhAc3YqzBhtKz5AZIy_zDfXu-DPpg07hM/s320/regedit6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250141473224677090" />
Is your computer moving too slowly? Do you receive strange messages about errors and want to stop this from happening again? Too much sudden computer crashing is affecting you too? Registry Optimizer will scan the Windows Registry for any obsolete or incorrect data and will let you know how to fix them. By fixing these errors your computer will work better and will have a higher speed. :)
Author: Robert Thomson
Imagine yourself being dropped at some city you have never been to before but you are required to be at a spot inside the city in the quickest possible time... You would make it to the spot a lot tired and exhausted than you would have, if only you had a map.So you understand the importance of some kind of a reference or a guide that could help you around unknown places, showing you shorter and quicker routes and making your journey much easier, right?
Thats exactly how a registry works for a computer, as a map. There are numerous processes that take place in the background and the registry keeps a log of everything thats happening in and around, thus showing the easiest of the paths available. Else its what happens when you are caught in traffic, delayed!
Not just that, but a registry keeps track of everything, literally, be it a software installation, file destruction, new hardware connection, or an application configuration. Ever time one of the above processes happens, entries are made in the registry, thus providing constant support and reference.

The smaller and crispier your registry is, the faster your computer functions. But this does not mean you can go and delete entries making it smaller straight away. That would most certainly create errors because the registry folders, though are split up and stored in separate :( places by the processor , are interlinked and would create as much chaos a broken bridge would.
Your registry should not have too many entries as the "so called" roadways or paths taken would be too long. One way to ensure this is to uninstall softwares that you dont use. This uninstallation process would automatically delete the software's registry entry making it less cluttered.
It may be surprising to know that clever registry edits could tweak up your system's performance, giving you access to a faster and a better work station. I know few people who could read through the registry log like they read a story book and produce interesting cuts here and there. But if you are a newbie, I would certainly not recommend this as one faulty move could lead to a system crash and you will have to reinstall everything from the scratch right from a new operating system.
But if you still want to optimize your registry, we have smart softwares that could do just this. A registry optimizer is one such smartware that reads through your registry, finds points of possible optimisation, backs up your old registry and optimises on your command.
All locks and knots in the registry are broken, all unrelated entries are removed and a new defragmented registry is produced giving you just what you wanted!
About Author
Dennis Semenov is the owner of LongsDigital website. Our laptops, or any kind of computer, are very important to our lives and for many of us, our work. Because these machines are so important to use we want to do everything in our power to make sure they are protected. If something should happento your laptop there goes everything that you had on it, whether it be pictures ofamily and friends or business documents - you wouldn't want to loose any of it. Here are five ways to make sure you keep your laptop safe.
One: You need to make sure your computer stays properly ventilated to keep from overheating. If your laptop overheats it can cause your CPU and other components to fry leaving you without a computer. You should make sure that you never leave your computer sitting on a soft surface while it is on so the vents will always get the air they need to keep your computer cool.
Two: Do not ever drop your computer. We all know that accidents can happen but one drop and your laptop could be a goner. You should make sure that if you are carrying it from one place to another that it is safely in your laptop bag. Make sure that when you set it on a table that it is level and not near the edge. You wouldn't want someone to walk by nd accidentally knock it over.

Three: When you open your laptop make sure that you do not put too much pressure on the screen. You will also want to avoid touching the screen and playing with the liquid inside. LCD screens are very sensitive and can be very easily damaged. You also do not want to clean it with anything but the cleaners that are specifically designed for LCD screens.
Four: Try to keep drinks and foods away from your laptop unless you absolutely need them there. If you have to have a drink or food near your laptop be very careful not to spill anything. Take this from personal experience, one little drop of liquid in the wrong place can be detrimental. Try to keep your liquids on a different surface than your laptop and when you drink make sure that you are not leaning over your laptop.
Five: Make sure you have anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer if you use the Internet. This will keep your computer safe from nasty viruses and prying eyes. There are several very good free anti-virus and anti-spyware software on the market but you can also get good software for a decent price. These are just five of the many ways you can keep your computer safe. Make sure you follow all the precaution as listed above and your computer should be safe. However, as mentioned earlier accidents happen and sometimes we may not be able to control the bad things that can happen to our laptops.
About Author
Looking for new laptop batteries? In November of 1999 I wrote an article called “Mousing Around”. It explains the basic functions of mouse use, but deals only with using the left mouse button.
The right mouse button offers a variety of options that can save you lots of time when used at the right time. For instance…
To change your screen saver or display options, you can go to the Start button – settings – control panel, and then double click on the display option. A faster way to get there though is to just put the mouse cursor in any blank area of your Windows desktop. Right click once and select “properties”. Same place, less time.
To create a new Microsoft notepad document to type a grocery list or quick memo etc. you can go to the Start button – Programs – Accessories – Notepad. A faster way to get there is to right click again on a blank area of your desktop and select New. From there, you can choose Notepad (or whatever listed program you want). Same place, less time. Windows has an annoying habit of placing your newly installed software at the bottom of your Start – Programs menu. For someone with a lot of software installed, it can take a while tot find the program you want. If you go to the Start – Programs menu, you can right click anywhere on the menu, and select “sort by name”. This will instantly alphabetize your entire Programs menu, allowing you to instantly find whatever you’re looking for.

The right mouse button can also be used to copy and paste information from one document to another. For an example of this, go to any website, or open any e-mail or word processing document. Now select some text to copy. To do this, just place your mouse cursor at the point where you want to start copying. Next, “click and drag” (Left click, holding button down, move the mouse) to the end of the text you want to copy (then let go of button). Notice how the text becomes colorized or “highlighted”? Now RIGHT click anywhere on that highlighted area, and select “copy”. That information that you have “copied” is now on your “clipboard” for use somewhere else. If you create a new e-mail or open a word processor, or even Microsoft Notepad, you can just right click anywhere in the body of the document, and select “paste”. Voila!
The copy and paste function can also be used for entire files as well as for text. For example, open “My Documents”. Pick any document of any kind, right click on it, and select “copy”. Now a copy of that file is on your clipboard and you can “paste” it wherever you want. On your desktop? Easy. Into the body of and e-mail? No problem.
Notice that there is another option on that right click menu besides “copy”, called “cut”. Many times instead of making a copy of the file or text, you will prefer to cut or remove it from its original location instead. This works the same way, placing it on your clipboard for use elsewhere. This is handy for moving files around, or rearranging entire paragraphs in documents like this one.
Just remember that you can only “cut” text or pictures if you are in a local document that you are otherwise able to edit anyway. In other words, you won’t be able to go to CNN’s website and “cut” a news story, to paste into a document. You’ll have to settle for copying.
This is by no means the end of the list of functions that your right mouse button can help you with, but it’s the end of my column for this month. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little. Even I have been amazed at the variety of right click options I’ve discovered over the last few days while writing this article.
Scott Hendison is an computer & internet consultant living in Portland Oregon and works with companies all over the world. The biggest advantage of using a computer media is that an innumerable amount of data can be easily stored in small storage devices. It makes life simpler and much more convenient.
All regular computer users dread the possibility of facing data loss. Everyone who uses computers has some time or the other undergone the traumatic experience of data loss in varying degrees. Whether one is a student or a pro, all have ventured into this dreaded territory.
There are professional records like accounting records, client databases, marketing strategy, new inventions and there are personal records of emotional value like photographs, video clippings, :(emails that have been lost due to various reasons. Data loss affects everyone in varying degrees. It can upset a user and, in extreme cases, even put big corporations out of business.:)
Information loss is directly converted into financial loss. In today’s world of digital technology, information is an important asset and time spent in retrieving it is equalent to monetary loss. Nowadays everything learnt, developed, invented and planned is stored in digital form and any damage to this information can bring lives to a standstill and businesses to a close.

It is not only important to use technology to its optimum capacity but to be equally aware of all potential failures arising out of our complete dependency on it. In order to use technology efficiently, it is imperative to identify potential data loss situations and take necessary precautions to either prevent them or mitigate their impact.
There are many reasons for data loss. Some of the important ones being:
1. Hardware or System Failure: These include hard drive crash which is the main storage media for the computer. It can also be electrical failure, read/ write head crash, controller failure and so on. To prevent these hardware problems one needs to protect electrical components by using computers in a dry shaded area. It is important to protect against power surges using a UPS. Do not shake or remove the covers on the hard drives or tapes and make sure that your hard drive is in a secure dust-free environment, away from any potential dangers.

2. Human error: User error is also one of the major causes of data loss. These include accidental deletion of files or drive format and emptying of recycle bin thereafter. Also, there is physical damage or trauma resulting from a drop or a fall, server configuration error or network failure. These can be avoided by not attempting any installations or repair without proper knowledge or experience. Avoid moving a computer while it’s on. Maintain security on your personal files and folders and maintain systematic and timely backup.
3. Software Error: These include corruption by diagnostic or repair tools, failed backups and configuration problems. Database corruption also falls under software errors. These can be avoided by maintaining proper backup, using diagnostic utilities carefully, updating security software and programs and ensuring data integrity and backup prior to any software upgradation.
4. Computer Viruses: They can establish themselves in your system and create havoc. These infect files, emails and the whole databases leading to glitches and errors and unpredictable behaviour. They can destroy or overwrite any existing data making access impossible. These can be prevented by using a good quality anti-virus program from a reputable company which should be run on regular intervals to scan all incoming data and software. Be extra cautious when using any external media like floppy disks and CDs.
5. Natural Disasters: These cause the least amount of damage in terms of percentage but can wipe out data storage completely when they strike. These include natural calamities like floods, earthquakes, lightning, fire and so on and can be guarded against by maintaining an ‘off-site’ backup of your data.
6. Vandalism: These include malicious acts of unknown hackers who either destroy or steal information or of disgruntled employees trying to get even. Even competitors can sabotage important data from company’s account leading to corruption, erasure or loss of vital information. These can be prevented by putting up security systems and firewalls by reputed companies. Also, a good and regularly updated data backup free of virus ensures that data recovery is easier. One can also employ data forensics to investigate and find the guilty or the methodology to prevent any recurrence of similar episodes.
The crux of the matter is that data loss is today’s reality and the most important safeguard against it is a well-maintained data backup.
About Author
James Walsh is a freelance writer and copy editor. It’s called the “Task Manager” and for good reason. From here, you can usually figure out what’s slowing down your computer.
Upon opening it with the 3 finger salute, you’ll see five tabs to choose from. These tabs are Applications, Processes, Performance, Networking and Users. This article deals with the Applications and Processes tabs. :(
The first tab; Applications; is similar to Windows 98. It shows a list of software that is open, and if anything is not responding, you can highlight it, and choose to “end task”. :)
This area is limited to software that you’ve opened.
The next tab; Processes; is the important tab. From here, you’ll see every process that is running at any given time, as well as how it started, and how much memory it is using.:$
While in the Processes tab, you can see four columns, Image name, User name, CPU and Mem usage. Clicking on any of these names will sort the information by that column in ascending or descending order.
The image name column just shows the name of the application or file that is running.
:y - - - - - - :# - - - - -;)

When looking at the names of all these processes most people will not recognize what is running. Names like lsass.exe and svchost.exe are cryptic to even the most seasoned computer user. If you care, go look it up on http://www.google.com, which will probably take you here http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/
The “user name” column shows the name of user that has started the process. These user names will usually be either “system”, “service”, or the actual name of a user. The ones showing your name came from programs that you’ve knowingly (or unknowingly) installed, whereas the others are usually just a part of Windows.
The CPU column shows how much of a load these programs are putting on your CPU at that time. Usually though, this load is minimal, and this column will usually just show all zeros.
The last column though is the money column. This is where you can find the offending culprit that is dragging down your performance. Look at the “mem usage” column. By sorting this way, you can see which of these programs are taking up the most memory on your system.
If my computer is being sluggish, I go to the processes tab, and sort by mem usage.
At a glance, I can see which offending application is sucking up all of my memory and slowing me to a crawl. Usually, at bootup with nothing open, only explorer.exe and svchost.exe should taking up much memory, at about 15,000k each. Everything else is pretty minor. Therefore, if a program is showing as taking up 25,000k, 45,000k, or even over 100,000k of memory, I can highlight it, and choose “end process” generally returning my computer to a more useable state.
If one of these processes appears that I don’t recognize, I make it a point to look it up and see what it is, then I am able to better control what is happening on my computer, making sure it is a process that came with Windows. Usually, it turns out to be spyware from a “free” download somewhere.
The Task Manager will help you manage the operation of your computer, and keep it running much faster. I guarantee it.
Scott Hendison

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-678853824961818684.post-69991120762115637242008-09-09T18:24:00.000-07:002008-09-15T20:38:20.795-07:00The Control Panel and then some...The Control Panel and then some...
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzTVzoCVNMBF71um3boklktC_8Ugpt6fFjFVwzxqj7SmvTtS1VWkf7fZpj3kTjZPxiQjoUIw9OHY1No777OAdmRa_bke8kfEeViT7D4ShIfg7Z5y-kBNHXZ1dNv6B995gXFpR4Fpf5EcE/s320/New+Picture+(1).bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5244198118390206178" />
I assume that you've played around in your windows "Control Panel." It's one of the first places I went before I had much software. ("Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel" or access it from "My Computer"). If you haven't been there, go play for a while, and then come back. It's safe, really. Just remember, if you're unsure about something, just "Cancel." As long as you don't click "Apply" or "Okay" your changes won't have a permanent effect.
You may have a lot of fun in the "Display" area. That's where you can change your screen saver, your color schemes, your desktop wallpaper, your screen area size (or resolution), and lots of other things too. Nearly every computer that comes in has the same default windows settings. Change it around. Live a little. If you happen to choose a screen area (resolution) setting that makes your screen go black, don't panic. Just don't press any keys, and your monitor will return to its original setting within 10 to 20 seconds. All that means is that your monitor cannot handle that high of resolution setting. Many older monitors won't go above a setting of 800 x 600.One area in your "Control Panel" that you may have left unexplored is your "Device Manager." This is the master hardware control center for your entire computer. From the "Control Panel", go to "System" then to the "Device Manager" tab. This is where you can immediately spot a problem if one exists.
:)- - - - :x- - - - - -:o - - - -

First, you'll see all of your devices listed there, from your CD Rom, to your USB (If you have Universal Serial Bus ports). There should be NO yellow circles with exclamation points inside them. If you have any of these, it means something is wrong. Usually, a driver (software for your hardware) is missing or incorrectly installed. Sometimes, even though the driver is correctly installed, there may be a conflict with another one of your devices. When Windows first installs hardware, it's called "Plug and Play." But Windows doesn't always do it properly, hence the technical term "plug and pray." When something doesn't work right, whether it's your CD drive, your sound, your modem, or anything else, the "Device Manager" is always the first place you should look.

By clicking on the individual device, you can expand the tree to show you your specific device. If you don't know what kind of modem or video card you have, click the "modem" or "display adapters" icon and there you'll see it listed. Please though, unless you know what you're doing (and if you did you probably wouldn't be reading this) don't make any changes in your device manager.
With only 500 or so words allocated to me each month, I can't really tell you how to do very much in there, but I encourage you to go look anyway. By being well informed about your computer, what's inside it, and what's wrong with it, you can more easily get your support questions answered, and you're less likely to get taken advantage of in a repair or upgrade situation.
Another great area of fun in your control panel is the "Mouse." Change your cursor to an hourglass, then sit back and howl as your family hits the "reset" button and reboots the computer over and over only to have the hourglass never go away! It's not good for your computer, but it sure is funny!
By: Scott Hendison

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-678853824961818684.post-74029610910122500402008-09-09T18:14:00.000-07:002008-09-09T18:20:44.552-07:00Clean Your DesktopClean your desktop
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix2E0Eu3KqOoqo6-Cp9rNZGsSRMELQx0LsA1hxWK-AP8lFB74dZiFk517K1EYkcZzRyz7ATOs_vvsDBOARnYAAjbXTcUH9Mll8ueQy8QqFscPqIvPuPcp1z3kuv1ayGtQkR0I5YtjsnaY/s320/New+Picture.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5244196047623040994" />
Look at your computer screen. How can you find anything in that mess? Aren’t all those shortcuts on your desktop confusing? How is the rest of your family supposed to use that thing? Don’t you wish is could be simpler? This month I’ll give you a quick and easy solution that will have your desktop looking like you just moved in.
Let me start by saying that Windows actually has a built in feature to add different users.
Each user can have his or her own desktop, wallpaper, shortcuts, start menu, etc. This feature though, involves logging off and signing on again every time someone else wants to use it, and that’s too cumbersome for my tastes. I find my solution a little simpler.
Find and empty spot (if you can!) on your Windows desktop. Now right click and select New – Folder. Notice that you now have a new folder on your desktop, the name of which is “new folder”, highlighted in blue. Just by typing here, you can rename that folder to be called whatever you want. Let’s type in “Games” and press enter. (To rename a folder once it’s already there and named, just right click and select “rename”)

Now you have an empty folder on your desktop. You can place all the game shortcuts on your desktop into that one folder a couple of ways, but the easiest is to click and drag. Just left click on a game icon, hold, and drag it into the folder. Once you let go, it’s moved. You can even select multiple shortcuts to move into this folder. All you do is hold down the Ctrl key while you left click to select as many icons as you choose. You can use this Ctrl key whenever you want to select multiple anything. Once they’re selected and highlighted, just drag them into the folder. That’s it.
By clicking and dragging shortcuts into folders, they will disappear from your desktop and be moved to the folder. If you want to have the same shortcut in more than one place, that’s easy. Just create a second shortcut before you move it. Please note that if you try to move an item that is actually a program, and not a shortcut, Windows will create a shortcut in that folder to the program you’ve chosen, leaving the original in place. A few things just have to stay on the desktop, and there is no real easy way to delete them.
You can have as many or as few folders on your desktop as you like, and organize them however you want. You can have one folder called “Kids” and have all of their games, programs etc. in one place. You can do this for each member of the family, giving each user their own folder that they can customize however they want.
To customize a folder, try this… Open one of the new folders, like “Games”. Go to the VIEW pull down menu at the top of your screen, and select “customize this folder”.
Then select the middle dot that says, “choose a background picture” and hit the “next” button. From here, you can pick a color for the background (instead of boring white), or change the color of the text for the icon titles, or even pick some special background art to use as wallpaper in that folder. By doing this, each user can have their own desktop folder to organize and use as they see fit, making your desktop as neat and clean as the day you got your computer.
By: Scott Hendison

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-678853824961818684.post-72484125515722866892008-09-02T00:41:00.000-07:002008-09-12T01:20:21.548-07:00Speed Up Your Internet Connection

How to Maximize the Speed of Your Internet Connection

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

This article describes how to speed up your Internet connection without use of web accelerators, and is geared towards Windows and Internet Explorer.

Steps

Do some basic maintenance on your PC. Run Disk Defrag, a scan disk, a virus scan, a malware scan, and clear your recycle bin. An unusually slow Internet connection experience is often the only sign that your computer is infected with viruses or other malware. Delete old files and temporary files. Never allow the free space on your C: drive to be less than 10% of the total size or twice the installed RAM (which ever is larger).

A well maintained PC will operate much better than a PC that has never had any maintenance. Google or your local computer repair store should be able to help you with this if you don't know how.

Reset Your Home Network. Sometimes restarting your home network if you have one will drastically increase the speed of your connection.

Optimize your cache or temporary Internet files. These files improve your Internet connection performance by not downloading the same file over and over. When a web site puts their logo graphic on every page your computer only downloads it when it changes. If you delete the temporary files it must be downloaded again.
if you disable the cache, it must be downloaded every time you view a page that uses it. This can be done by opening Internet Explorer, clicking on "Tools" at the top and choosing "Internet Options". On the General tab, click the "Settings" button next to Temporary Internet Files. Set Check for newer versions to "Automatically". Set amount of disk space to use to 2% of your total disk size or 512 MB, which ever is smaller. On Firefox, click "Tools" then "Options," and go to the privacy tab. Then click on the Cache tab within this.

Never bypass your router. Most routers include a firewall that is very difficult for hackers to defeat. If you don't need to use Wireless then hook your computer directly to your router. Routers will only slow down your connection by a few Milli-seconds. You won't notice the difference but the hackers will.

If you are using a Wireless router, make sure it doesn't conflict with a cordless phone or wireless camera. Wireless routers come in two varieties; 802.11bg (2.4Ghz) or 802.11a (5.8Ghz) If you are using a 2.4Ghz Cordless phone and 2.4Ghz Wireless router then your Internet connection speed will slow while you use the cordless phone. The same is true of wireless security cameras. Check on your phone and camera, if it's 900Mhz then it's fine. If it says 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz then it could be the cause of your slow connection speed while they're in use.

Call your Internet service provider (ISP). Sometimes you just have bad service. They can usually tell if your connection is substandard without having a technician come to your home. Just be nice and ask.

Upgrade your computer. If your computer is slow, it doesn't matter how fast your Internet connection is, the whole thing will just seem slow. You can only access the Internet as fast as your PC will allow you to.

Replace your old cable modem. Any solid-state electronics will degrade over time due to accumulated heat damage. Your broadband modem will have a harder and harder time 'concentrating' on maintaining a good connection as it gets older (signal to noise ratios will go down, and the number of resend requests for the same packet will go up). An after-market cable modem as opposed to a cable-company modem will frequently offer a better connection.

Often your connection speed is slow because other programs are using it. To test if other programs are accessing the Internet without your knowing, Click Start, Click Run. Type "cmd" (without quotes). Type "netstat -b 5 > activity.txt". After a minute or so, hold down Ctrl and press C. This has created a file with a list of all programs using your Internet connection. Type activity.txt to open the file and view the program list. Ctrl Alt Delete and open up the Task Manager. Go to the process menu and delete those processes that are stealing your valuable bandwidth. (NOTE: Deleting processes may cause certain programs to not function properly)

After you have tried all this try your connection again and see if it's running any faster.

Tips

Call your ISP and have them verify all of your TCP/IP settings if you are concerned. Ask them to verify that your Proxy settings are correct.

Don't expect dial up or high speed lite service to be fast. The Internet is primarily geared towards Broadband Connections. Sometimes, you have to wait a little.

Download programs that make browsing faster:

Loband.org is a browser inside of a browser that loads web pages without the images.

Opera is a good Internet browser for slower speeds. You can set an option to not load images.

If you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox, try downloading Google Web Accelerator. It is meant to speed up broadband connections, but it can also slow your Internet connection. Try enabling it and disabling it and see when your Internet connection runs faster.

If you are using Firefox, download the Fasterfox extension and Firetune.

Reduce the amount of programs running that use your Internet connection (Instant Messengers, RSS Feeders, and MS Applications set to send Internet data)

Google Accessible Is designed to search pages in order of how clean they are of junk. This will bring up pages that are usually not only easy to read, but are quick to load.

Upgrade your RAM. This will not only improve your regular computer use, but it will affect the speed of your Internet connection because your computer works faster.

Use the Stop button to stop loading pages once you've gotten what you want.

Some times malware on your computer can eat up your bandwidth. Make sure you have an up-to-date malware protection program.

Warnings

Viruses and malware can often use up your bandwidth and slow down your Internet connection. Make sure you have protection against this. Many ISP's will provide software for this. Make sure your anti-virus and malware scanners are up-to-date.

Bypassing the router will leave you more vulnerable to attacks because you no longer have the built-in firewall from your router protecting you.

Watch out for scams that claim to make your Internet go a lot faster for free. They may tell you to download their program, which usually has a lot of other hidden programs attached that might steal your identity.

Related wikiHows

How to Reset Your Home Network

How to Log on to the Internet and Other Basics

How to Get a Free Internet Connection

How to Get Free Internet on a Verizon Wireless Razr V3M

How to Reset a Linksys Router

How to Change a Computer Hard Drive Disk

Article provided by wikiHow, a collaborative writing project to build the world's largest, highest quality how-to manual. Windows comes with a disk cleanup tool that helps you free up space on your hard disk. The utility identifies files that you can safely delete without messing anything up, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files. This is a necessary step when looking to speed up your computer.
Use Disk Cleanup to....
* Remove temporary Internet files.
* Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).
* Empty the Recycle Bin.
* Remove Windows temporary files.
* Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.
* Remove installed programs that you no longer use.
Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.
To use Disk Cleanup
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools,
and then click Disk Cleanup. If several drives are available, you might be
prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.
Disk Cleanup calculates the amount of space you will be able to free.
2. In the Disk Cleanup for dialog box, scroll through the content of the Files to
delete list. (If you have multiple hard drives you will have to select which one
to scan.)Choose the files that you want to delete.

3. Clear the check boxes for files that you don't want to delete, and then click OK.
4. When prompted to confirm that you want to delete the specified files, click OK.
Be sure to do this if you want to speed up your computer speed!
My personal website is an absolute must see if you are looking to increase the speed of your computer. But no matter which way you do it all comes down to graphics are what makes a website stand out, or graphics are what makes your computer game so real looking. Or perhaps even your graphics card that is in your computer might be what you are talking about. As a definition computer graphics is considered a sub-field of computer science, it studies methods of digitally synthesizing and or manipulating visual content. Although the term computer graphics will often refer to three-dimensional computer graphics, it will also include those two dimensional graphics and image processing.Graphics as a term covers a wide area. Computer graphics is a very sought after career choice nowadays too! If you love to draw and are good at it computer graphics would be a great choice for a career for you, look into it. The field grows everyday, look at all the films that come out now with strictly computer graphics, Madagascar, The Bee Movie, and Kung Fu Panda are just a few. Not long ago that was unheard of, nor if it was done the graphics were one or two dimensional and not that good. Now though the 3-D graphics that are put out are so life-like.
One of the first computer graphic or computer animation displays was seen in Futureworld in 1979, on the movie a computer created hand and face was displayed. We've come a long way since this time, as stated above movies come out ever day that are completely computer animated.

Graphics are used in computer software games and also other games, such as Xbox,
Playstation, and Nintendo Wii. If you go back and look at say Madden '98 and compare the graphics on that game to Madden '08 it's amazing the lengths they have come in such a short amount of time. Heck to even see a leap in a shorter amount of time get a copy of Madden '05 and compare that too the '08 version of the same game, in the short three years between the games the graphics are so amazingly different that it's mind boggling. It's not only sports games that have advanced far ahead of its processors, all types of games have catapulted to new levels with the technological advances of computer graphics.
How about all the fantasy role playing games you can play online in mass now? These are designed by computer programmers and computer graphics specialist. Everyday they advance the graphics by creating updates that are immediately available for online game players. If you've seen these back when they first come out and compare them to today, it's so amazing. Really computer graphics is a high technology field that is used in so many ways.
So next time you load up that game and you see the sweat coming off of one of the players because the graphics are so advanced, tip your hat to all those amazing people who work on computer graphics.
You can download a free trial of the microsoft home vista registry cleaner from Mehmet website. Because I will tell you the truth about your computer technology. I will be blunt, up front and honest about what ... ...
"Technology... is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other. " ~C.P. Snow
It's an accepted fact that hard drives are the weakest link in computer technology. The hard disk is where the operating system and all software applications are stored. Because of this, a properly working drive is essential in the operation of any computer.
But since these drives are basically just an electro-mechanical devices, and like any other machine they will eventually breakdown and fail.
And then oops, without backups, all your family photos, legal documents and important emails are gone!
There are three levels of data or file recovery for a dying or broken hard drive:
1) Basic Level: The drive is working (your can hear it spin up but it will not boot to Windows)
This usually means that some essential Windows files have been comprised or damaged in some way. With the right software you can view your files and even copy them. You have to choices...
Use a Rescue CD: You can grab a bootable CD with hard drive utility software already installed on it. You can then make repairs or copy your files from your bad drive to a replacement. A good name brand rescue CD for Windows is the "Ultimate Boot CD"
Move the Drive: If you don't have a way of burning a rescue CD and don't want to wait for a copy to shipped to you; you can always move your bad drive and place it in another working desktop PC. Once installed you should be able to view all your files on the drive from a secondary slot (normally where the CD or DVD drive live.)
2) Intermediate Level: The drive works but you can't see the files you want using the methods above.
Okay, things are not going good. You at this point have to get out the big guns. You will have to download and run a data recovery program such as "Active UNDELTE", "Recover My Files", etc. Both of these programs are powerful, reliable, and easy to use and won't cost you an arm or a leg to buy.

With Active UNDELETE you can also make a bootable CD to run on a PC if you can't move the drive to another computer. Both have technical support options if you need further help.
3) Advanced Level: You have tried everything above but you still can't find that Last Will from Aunt Sue...
At this point you have probably spent several hours (if not days) without your PC and invested just over a $100 in software if you used all of the above products. Now, is the time for you to decide to either use a professional level recovery application or throw in the towel and take your drive to a recovery specialist.
If you have the time but not a lot of cash (understand that hard drive recovery services can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars) then you can ratchet it up a notch and buy a copy of the home version of EasyRecovery from Ontrack. Ontrack is one of the leading data recovery companies in the world.
But if time is more critical and money is no obstacle then bite the bullet and take your drive to a local computer shop that does recovery work. Or if that is not possible then contact a big service like Ontrack and ship your hard drive to them.
Data recovery can be expensive no matter who does it, so to be on the safe side and make file backups frequently and fully.
Sick of computer headaches? An example of a new font is the Harry Potter font loved by Harry Potter addicts. If a person wants to learn how to install a new font, there are a lot of resources found on the Web that they can check out.

There are many fonts that you can download off of the internet. Once the person has picked the font that captured his/her interest, the next thing to research about is how to install the new font in the laptop or the PC. Of course, using search engines such as Google and Yahoo will lead you to various sites offering instructions on how to install a new font.

If Microsoft Windows is your operating system, you will find it easy to install new fonts. Most of the font packages that can be downloaded from the Internet are in .zip files. The files are compressed to have a faster download rate. Unzipped the file first prior to installation.

The steps to install a new font are listed below:

1. All open Windows programs or applications must be closed first.
2. Next is to double click on the Control Panel and then select Appearances and
Themes.
3. Click on See Also, then Choose Fonts. If a folder tree appears, however, click
Folders, and then once See Also appears, choose the category Fonts.
4. Under the File menu, you will see the option: Install New Font. Select that
option.
5. Once that option is selected, you will be asked to select a drive.
6. Look in the Folders list and select (double-click) the folder that holds the new
fonts that you desire to add
7. Some may come with more fans a power supply or nothing at all.If you go to some sites you may see them selling cases with cathode ray tubes for lights and power supplies, that is all good. Just find something that you like and that you ard. There are many different brands of boards out there so I will not even begin to go into that. One of the main factors you will want to consider when getting a board is the type of processor you want to put in it. Intel or AMD. They are both reliable producers of processors though you once again can not stick an Intel processor in the slot for an AMD board. A popular type of processor that is from intel is a socket775 processor. The processor will usually come with instructions to properly install your processor and fan. Make sure that before you put the fan on that you put a smalldab of heat compound on the fan and install it properly. The other factor you will want to consider is the type of slot for the video card and other cards you will add. With the latest boards there typically will not be an on board video card so you will have to purchase one. So depending on the board you have your new board wil either have an agp slot or pci-e e is short for express. These are just different technologies for your graphics cards. Now if in the absolute worst case scenario you cant purchase either card appropriate for your board there may be some computer shops that you could get a pci video
card for. NOT RECOMMENDED. Also note once again that you CAN NOT mix and match slots and cards. agp to agp and pci-e to pci-e. PCI-E cards are more popular now days than agp. You will be more likely to get a pci-e card as opposed to agp. Each cards price will depend on the size of its memory. You will pay more for a 512 mb card than a 128 mb card and so on.
Now that we have the case the motherboard, processor and video card you will need to focus on the hard drive and optical drives. TYpically on modern computers you will not see a floppy drive. We will not even worry about this piece..
So for the hard drive you will need to look at a few key factors. Its rpm or revolutions per minute, its size and how it is connected to the motherboard.

You will more likely see hard drives with an rpm of either 5400 or 7200. The more rpm themore it will cost. The same goes for the size of the hard drive. The more space will generally cost you more money. You will want to select your hard drive and video card as well as processor based on what you want to use the system for. This means do not use a budget system with minimal hardware to play graphically intense games or to install windows vista on.
For a general use computer for school work downloading music and online games that are not graphically intense your best bet may be with a 128 mb video card and a 160 GB hard drive. But for those that are more into graphics games and processor intense programs you will want more memory for your graphics card , ram and more space for your hard drive. After I go over the ways to connect the hard drive to the motherboard i will go over the specifics in ram.
Now there are two ways to connect a hard drive to a motherboard. You can determine the type by the way the back end of the drive. If you see a set of two rows of pins that are either 16 or 18 pins long then you have an IDE hard drive. If you just see two small flat areas one being slightly larger than the other you have a SATA or Serial ATA Drive. SATA drives are better since their cables are able to move data much faster than the ribbon cable used for
the IDE drives. The same types of connections that are used for a hard drive are also used for the optical drives.
For ram or random access memory is a semi long flat board with several chips on it. Your most common types of memory are sdram, ddr, and ddr2. There is also an opsolite technology for ram called rambus. Take a look on the net for it if you wish.
Sdram is for older motherboards ranging from socketA on down. These are more expensive and hard to find. Now you will need to consult your motherboard manual on the type and speed of the memory needed. DDR is used for socket 478. DDR2 is for socket 478 on up.The speed of the memory will depend on the requirements of the processor and motherboard. So now we have the case, motherboard, memory or ram, processor, video card and hard drive.
We still need the sound card and optical drives. As far as sound cards go you may have an option or two. Some boards do still come with either a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound-sound card, but if you want something better then you will have to go with a pci card. Now depending on how much you want to spend you can get just a basic sound card for fairly little money though if you want more out of it then you will be looking at more of an expensive model.
There are even cards out there that will ship with a front panel that will slip in the 5.25 bay under your optical drive.
To cap the system off you will need some sort of an optical drive to be able to read and burn discs. You can go from a basic cd burner all the way to a blueray burner. Though I have no experience working with blueray burners I do know that a dvd DL or dual layer burner will
allow you to read and write cds and dvd/s Note that if you get discs that have a -R those are readable. This means that once they have been burnt and finalized thats it no more data
can be put on the disc. The exception to this is if you were to create what is called a multi-session disc. So if you have a file on a cd that takes up 450mb of the disc you can save it to where the next time you run your burning program you can fit a file or more to take up the remaining 150mb. If you get discs with a-RW that means that of course they are
rewritable. Need I say more.Oh and one last part I forgot to tell you about is the power supply. This is where of course
all those parts will get power from. You will see one large trunk that has a clip on it along with several smaller connectors and maybe even a semi thin black flat connector for
your sata drives. Take the trunk and plug it into the mounted board. Make sure not to force anything otherwise the traces on your board will break and your board will be dead. Make sure that the clip is facing the notch on the power connector. This means that the clip should be firmly over that little overhang and the pins should fit tightly into that connector. There will be a smaller 4 pin connector that needs to be inserted also onto the
board. locate it and make sure the clip is on the same side as the notch on the connector when inserted into the board. There are different wattages for power supplies This all depends on the amount of power needed for your drives and pci agp and pci-e cards.Well I hope that this article has been helpful. Know that the information outlined above is all dependent on your budget and what you are wanting to use the system for. I would suggest
more memory, hard drive space and a bigger size memory for your video card if you are a gamer or have programs that use up alot of your systems resources. If you are wanting something for the average user that downloads music, plays online games and browses the net then a system with less ram hard drive and video card can be put to good use. Just do your
research and if you are not comfortable with taking on the task of putting together your system you can always have someone here at Baker IT Services put it together for you.
